Stuck Decorating...Start Here✨

Don't Know Where to Start Decorating? Start Here.

Have you ever walked into a room, looked around, and thought,

“I have no idea where to start”?

Sometimes decorating feels overwhelming because we're trying to make every decision at once. The furniture, the colors, the artwork, and  the accessories. Before you know it, you've talked yourself out of getting started.

But here's something I want you to consider.

You don't have to figure out the entire room. You just need one place to begin.

Find Your Starting Point...

This week, I've been sharing a few unexpected places to look for design inspiration.

In the bathroom, start with the towels aisle.

A beautiful towel can introduce a color combination, pattern, or texture you may not have considered. Before choosing all the accessories, see what catches your eye.

In the living room, start with the rug.

Your rug can help establish the direction of the room. If you choose something with color or pattern, you can pull those colors into your pillows, artwork, and other accessories.

But what if you love a neutral rug? That's a great starting point, too.

A neutral rug allows you to introduce different colors and textures without having to change the foundation of your room.

Notice how the rug changes the direction of the room?

One creates a color story you can build from. The other gives you room to experiment with different accents.

Neither is better. It simply depends on what you want your space to feel like.

And What About The Bedroom?

Start with the bedding.

Your comforter, coverlet, or duvet can establish the mood of the room before you ever choose a lamp or a piece of artwork.

If you prefer neutral bedding, consider bringing personality into the room through layered pillows, throws, and textures.

The beauty of that approach is that you can refresh the look without starting over.

Take a look at this bedroom. Notice how the cream coverlet creates a soft, neutral foundation for the entire space.

Now look at how the room comes together.

The mauve pillows introduce color, while the layered blanket and textured throw add warmth and dimension. The artwork above the bed brings those same mauve and cream tones into the room, with touches of gold that complement the lamps and other metallic accents.

Nothing feels disconnected because the colors and textures are repeated throughout the space.

And that's the beauty of starting with neutral bedding. You aren't limited to one color palette. You can introduce color through your pillows, throws, artwork, and accessories without having to replace the foundation of your bed.

The coverlet keeps the room grounded. The accessories give it personality.

So before you start choosing everything for your bedroom, consider your bedding first. It may be the perfect starting point for creating a space that feels beautifully pulled together.

Choose one room in your home that you've been wanting to decorate or refresh.

Before buying anything, find one piece that inspires you.

It might be a rug, a piece of artwork, a fabric, or something you already own.

Pay attention to the colors, patterns, and textures. Then ask yourself:

What could I build around this?

You might be surprised by how much direction one piece can give you.

And if decorative pillows are part of your refresh, take a look at the pillow covers available in The Olivia Home Collection. Sometimes a new pattern or texture is all you need to bring a room together.

Wishing you a peaceful week ahead. Stay Inspired
